Rap is the proof-of-concept arc. 20 builds. Phonology layer, audit primitives, 4 subgenre profiles (Boom Bap, Trap, Drill, Conscious Rap), Haiku critic loop, per-bar validator, 30-hit corpus calibration, public Forbidden Archive of 10 rap-specific failure modes. Corner Store Arithmetic
16-bar verse about calculating survival at the corner store counter, counting change and counting days. Focus on boom-bap pocket with kick on 1 and 3, snare on 2 and 4. Target 12-14 syllables per bar with multisyllabic internal rhyme chains.
8-bar hook centered around the kitchen table at 2am, processing generational trauma over trap production. 808 hits emphasize the weight of each revelation. MC voice delivers raw truth with syllable precision landing on snare hits.
Sixteen bar verse from mom's couch perspective, watching the block change through the window. Drill production with staccato delivery naming specific corners and fallen friends. BPM 140-160 with memorial precision.
Conscious rap flow-switch midway through verse, debating systematic issues in the barbershop chair. Beat-pocket awareness shifts from half-time to double-time as arguments intensify. 16-bar structure with paradox compression.

Forbidden Archive · 10 failure modes
Each failure mode is cited by name in the forge prompt and flagged by the critic loop with section + reasoning. The full operational definitions live in the Forbidden Archive document.
Forced Rhyme
A rhyme so contorted the meaning bends to serve the sound. The reader can feel the writer reaching for a syllable instead of writing the line that wanted to come next.
Example: "I was rich / and my Sprite went pitch"
Dead Bar
A bar that fills space without advancing the song — no image, no joke, no narrative move, no emotional shift. The critic loop catches these by checking that every bar earns its 4 beats.
Slant At Peak
A slant (near-) rhyme placed where the structure demands a true rhyme — typically the last syllable of a verse or the hook landing. Slants are great mid-bar; at the peak they read as the writer missing the target.
Internal Rhyme Fatigue
Too many internal rhymes per bar — the rapper hammering the AABB pattern inside every line until the reader stops hearing meaning and only hears the click of rhyming consonants.
Wordplay Over Story
A bar that exists only to land the pun — when the wordplay is removed, no story remains. Adam Bradley calls this "the cleverness tax": the listener applauds the joke but forgets the song.
Hook Obscuration
A hook whose meaning is buried under flow tricks, layered ad-libs, or syllable density. A hook should be the LEAST opaque thing in the song; obscured hooks fail the "could a stranger sing it after one listen" test.
Borrowed Slang Without Earning
Using regional / generational slang the speaker hasn't earned through the rest of the song. The critic flags this when the slang is the only marker of authenticity — the lyric lifted style without lifting story.
Cartoon Bravado
Boasts so untethered from any specific image they read as parody — "I'm the greatest, you're nothing, my chain costs a million" with zero detail to ground it. Real rap bragging cites specific locations, prices, names.
Run-On Bar
A bar that overflows its phonological budget — the rapper would need to either swallow syllables or push into the next bar's beat to deliver it. Detected by the rap phonology layer counting syllables vs the substyle's BPM-derived ceiling.
Empty Inner Climax
The structural location reserved for the verse's biggest emotional / narrative move is occupied by filler — a flow flex, a brand drop, a non-sequitur — instead of the moment the song was building toward.

What Makes a Hip-Hop Bar Score 90+
Hip-hop’s central craft variable is words-per-bar plus internal-rhyme density. The universal rubric undercounts both. The hip-hop-bars overlay rewrites the bands so the form’s actual craft moves — polysyllabic chains, layered punchlines, voice-print POV — score where they should. Here is what 90+ looks like, bar by bar.

Rap Punchline Structure: Setup, Turn, Delivery
A punchline is not a clever phrase. It is a three-part structure — setup, turn, delivery — engineered to make the listener laugh, flinch, or rewind. Miss any part and the line dies.
